The meeting started with a Trade show where industry professionals were able to interact with realtor members. Participants of the trade show included NJ Lenders, Trustco Bank, Finance of America, Supreme Lending, Chase, The Cadre Law Firm, Envoy Mortgage, Davis Photography, WRT Oil Tank Services, MLB Residential, Ecapture Inc., Wells Fargo, First Meridian Mortgage, and State Farm Capellan Agency.

During the meeting, the 2018 EBCBOR Good Neighbor Award recipient was presented to Orna Ben-Or Jackson of Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty in Tenafly. The Annual EBCBOR Good Neighbor Award is presented to a REALTOR who has made extraordinary commitments to improving the quality of life in their local and/or global community through volunteer efforts.

Orna is not only a dedicated Realtor, but is also an active volunteer for Larger than Life USA, an organization in Long Island City, NY. Larger than Life, an Israeli nonprofit organization, aims to improve the quality of life and the welfare of children and youth with cancer and their families in Israel, regardless or faith, race, or gender. It is the largest organization in Israel of its type.

For the past 8 years, Ms. Ben-Or Jackson has led fundraising efforts for the organization within Bergen County. She has also volunteered in accompanying and assisting children and their families in need by providing food and toys.  Through her fundraising events; Orna was able to raise $80,000 annually.

Orna said “I believe that community work is a key part of our role as realtors. We do not simply connect between houses and people. Instead we are able to connect between people, creating a community that will support and benefit one another. She continued, “Larger than Life has allowed me to bring joy and comfort to those who need it most, to bring light and hope in moments of darkness, and the honor to do something meaningful for someone else.”

On behalf of Orna Ben-Or Jackson, the Eastern Bergen County Board of REALTORS® will give the Larger than Life USA organization a donation of $1,000. EBCBOR’s Chief Executive Officer, Jorge Ledesma stated “EBCBOR’s Annual Good Neighbor award shines light to our members who do much more than sell real estate. This year we had 8 nominees all deserving of this philanthropic award. They are a prime example of what the Realtor® community stands for.”

EBCBOR, chartered in 1923, has served Realtors and consumers in Bergen County for more than 90 years. As a not-for-profit trade organization, it represents over 4,000 Realtor members in Bergen and Hudson Counties.
